Statement of Faith
I believe that God created and imbued everything with goodness. Essential to creation is the gift of God’s own image to humanity. I see God’s image revealed through the lives and loves of every individual. Through honest self reflection and engaging in diverse community our understanding of God improves.
As God walks with creation, there are times we need reminding of our commission to bless the world. In these times lose to we lose touch with our created goodness, forget we bear God’s image, and we wander away from God. God’s response to our wandering is faithfulness, forever finding ways to reveal truth and offer us forgiveness and renewal.
My renewal and forgiveness comes from Jesus; God incarnate, Emmanuel; who I accept as my savior. Jesus came not to be served, but to serve, to lift up the low, and to examine cultural and religious norms. Even more astonishing, Jesus proclaimed God’s love to all nations while we were still sinners. Through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, we are assured of our eternal life and beloveds.
I believe in the Holy Spirit as my constant renewer of hope, and coach through life. The Spirit equips everyone with gifts needed to fulfill the call God has set for them. Out of joyful thanksgiving that we are forgiven, we work for God in every task knowing the Spirit is aiding us. The proof of the Spirit’s efforts are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
I believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and that it points us back to God in all times. The Bible guides us through trouble, encourages us in our calling, redirects behavior, and calls the church to be a voice for the outcast, to work for justice, and to build communities of faith.
These communities are called to worship with exhilaration. We worship as a community through song, prayer, sacraments, offering, and many other ways that awaken us to God’s presence and declare the wonder and gratitude we feel for God. Worship is continual into our daily individual lives. As Jesus used every detail of life to teach we too focus our lives on that which brings us into a closer relationship with God.
I believe God has called me to commit my life to the proclamation of the Word and the administration of sacraments. In baptism we recognize that we have been cleansed of sin by the death of Jesus and that we too are resurrected with Christ to a new life. Baptism is a call to the whole community to support the newly baptized in life and faith. In communion we celebrate the reunion of humanity with God. Jesus gave this meal to the church, and through the breaking of bread eyes are opened to know Jesus. By eating the bread and drinking from the cup the community is nourished in Spirit and renewed to their call as God’s image bearers and go out to fulfill the commission to bless the world.
